An act to add Section 434.7 to the Government Code, relating to flags.

SB 1012, as amended, Nguyen. Flags: purchase.

Existing law requires the Flag of the United States and the Flag of the State of California to be prominently displayed during business hours upon or in front of the buildings or grounds of each public building belonging to the state, a county, or a municipality, among other places.

This bill would, on and after January 1, 2017, require any Flag of the United States or the Flag of the State of California purchased by the state or any local government agency be made in thebegin delete United States from articles, materials, or supplies that were grown, produced, and manufactured in theend delete United States.

Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes. State-mandated local program: no.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.  

Section 434.7 is added to the Government Code,
2to read:

434.7.  

(a) On and after January 1, 2017, any Flag of the United
2States or the Flag of the State of California purchased by the state
3or any local government agency shall be made in thebegin delete United States
4from articles, materials, or supplies that were grown, produced,
5and manufactured in theend delete
United States.

6(b) For purposes of this section, the term “local government
7agency” means a county, city, city and county, town, municipal
8corporation, school district or other district, political subdivision,
9or any board, commission, or agency thereof, or other local agency.
