SB 1151, as amended, Hall. Emergency services: feasibility study.

Existing law establishes the Office of Emergency Services within the office of the Governor and under the supervision of the Director of Emergency Services and makes the office responsible for the state’s emergency and disaster response services for natural, technological, or manmade disasters and emergencies.

This bill would require the office to conduct a study to determine the feasability of establishing a contract with the United States Postal Service to obtain the assistance of the United States Postal Service with emergency response during a declared disaster, as specified.begin insert This bill would require the office to prepare a report on the findings of the study end insertbegin insertand submit that report to the Legislatureend insertbegin insert on or before January 1, 2018.end insert

SECTION 1.  

Section 8588.4 is added to the Government Code,

3Service to obtain the assistance of the United States Postal Service
4with emergency response services during a declared disaster. The
5study shall include, but is not limited to, an examination of the use
6of United States Postal Service employees, resources, and assets
7to provide the following:

10have been damaged as a result of a declared emergency.

(b) The office shall prepare a report on the findings of the study
22required in subdivision (a) and submit that report to the
23Legislature, in compliance with Section 9795, on or before January
