To the Members of the California State Senate:

I am returning Senate Bill 1288 without my signature.

This bill authorizes local governments to conduct a local election
using ranked choice voting.

In a time when we want to encourage more voter participation, we need
to keep voting simple. Ranked choice voting is overly complicated
and confusing. I believe it deprives voters of genuinely informed
choice.
