An act relating to correctional facilities, and making an appropriation therefor.

SB 1307, as introduced, Cannella. Correctional facilities: construction and renovation.

Existing law establishes the Board of State and Community Corrections and requires the board to, among other things, establish minimum standards for local correctional facilities, as specified. Existing law requires the plans and specifications of every jail, prison, or other place of detention of persons charged with or convicted of crime or of persons detained pursuant to the Juvenile Court Law or the Youth Authority Act, if those plans and specifications involve construction, reconstruction, remodeling, or repairs of an aggregate cost in excess of $15,000, to be submitted to the board for its recommendations.

This bill would appropriate $6,150,000 from the General Fund in specified amounts to the Cities of Firebaugh, Huron, and Mendota, for the purposes of constructing, renovating, or relocating police department facilities, whether in new buildings or existing buildings that have been renovated.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.  

Six million one hundred fifty thousand dollars
2($6,150,000) is hereby appropriated from the General Fund for
P2    1the purposes of constructing, renovating, or relocating police
2department facilities, whether in new buildings or existing
3buildings that have been renovated, to be distributed as follows:

4(a) One million two hundred thousand dollars ($1,200,000) to
5the City of Firebaugh.

6(b) Four million dollars ($4,000,000) to the City of Huron.

7(c) Nine hundred fifty thousand dollars ($950,000) to the City
8of Mendota.
