An act to amend Section 29064 of the Government Code, relating to local government.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST

SB 1315, as introduced, Bates. Counties: budgets.

Existing law requires the board of supervisors of a county to approve a recommended budget, including revisions, on or before June 30 of each year, as specified.

This bill would provide that in any year in which the board of supervisors of a county adopts a budget on or before June 30, the board is not required to approve a recommended budget.

SECTION 1.  

Section 29064 of the Government Code is

6necessary for the purpose of having authority to spend until the
7budget is adopted.

8(b) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), the board may
9make revisions to the recommended budget until the budget is
10adopted pursuant to Article 4 (commencing with Section 29080).

P2    1(2) A revision to the recommended budget after the start of the
2public hearing held pursuant to Article 4 (commencing with Section
329080) shall be made only if the revision is proposed in writing
4and filed with the clerk of the board prior to the close of the public
5hearing, or approved by a four-fifths vote of the board after the
6close of the hearing.

7(c) In any year in which the board adopts the budget pursuant
8to Article 4 (commencing with Section 29080) on or before June
930, the board shall not be required to approve a recommended
10budget pursuant to subdivision (a).
