LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SCR 32, Mello. Gillian Cichowski Memorial Overcrossing. This measure would designate the Bear Creek Overpass on State Highway Route 17 at the Lexington Reservoir as the Gillian Cichowski Memorial Overcrossing. The measure would request the Department of Transportation to determine the cost of erecting appropriate plaques and markers showing that designation and to erect the plaques and markers upon receiving donations from nonstate sources to cover that cost. WHEREAS, Gillian Cichowski, an active community volunteer and a mother of two children, was killed while attempting to make a left turn on State Highway Route 17 near the Lexington Reservoir; and WHEREAS, Her death was a catalyst to other community members who had been advocating for safety improvements in the area; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Bear Creek Overpass on State Highway Route 17 at the Lexington Reservoir is hereby officially designated the Gillian Cichowski Memorial Overcrossing; and be it further Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is directed to determine the cost of erecting appropriate plaques and markers, consistent with the signing requirements for the state highway system, showing the special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources to recover the costs, to erect those plaques and markers; and be it further Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Transportation.
