Relative to the Ronald Reagan Freeway
HOUSE OR SENATE RESOLUTIONS DO NOT CONTAIN A DIGEST
WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan, as a young man, traveled west some 55
years ago to make his permanent home in the Golden State; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan was Governor of the State of California for
eight years, from 1967 to 1975; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan was elected the 40th President of the
United States for two full terms and served a total of eight years
from 1981 to 1989; and
WHEREAS, When Ronald Reagan was Governor of the State of
California between 1967 and 1975, he took great interest in the
California judiciary, instituted business task forces to improve the
effectiveness and efficiency of state government, and greatly
expanded the state parks system, including more beach land; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan, while ever conscious of history's lessons,
looked to the future with unbridled optimism, often stating, "we can
work to reach our dreams and to make America a shining city on a
hill"; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his dedication to United States
citizens, and in particular to the people of California, it is
appropriate to designate the State Highway Route 118 freeway as the
Ronald Reagan Freeway; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That Ronald
Reagan be commended for his dedication and outstanding service to the
people of the United States of America, and in particular to the
people of California; and be it further
Resolved, That the State Highway Route 118 freeway is hereby
officially designated the Ronald Reagan Freeway; and be it further
Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested to
determine the cost of appropriate plaques and markers, consistent
with the signing requirements for the state freeway system, showing
this special designation, and, upon receiving donations from nonstate
sources covering that cost, to erect those plaques and markers; and
be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Transportation.
