   An act to amend Section 1000 of the Elections Code, relating to
elections, and declaring the urgency thereof, to take effect
immediately.



	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   AB 22, Longville.  Elections:  regular election dates.
   Former law included among various established regular election
dates, the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June of each year.
  That date was deleted as a regular election date by legislation
enacted in 1998 and operative January 1, 1999.  Legislation enacted
and effective February 4, 1999, restored the first Tuesday after the
first Monday in June as a regular election date of each odd-numbered
year.
   This bill would make technical changes to those provisions.
   This bill would declare that it is to take effect immediately as
an urgency statute.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:


  SECTION 1.  Section 1000 of the Elections Code is amended to read:

   1000.  The established election dates in each year are as follows:

   (a) The second Tuesday of April in each even-numbered year.
   (b) The first Tuesday after the first Monday in March of each
odd-numbered year.
   (c) The first Tuesday in March in each even-numbered year.
   (d) The first Tuesday after the first Monday in June of each
odd-numbered year.
   (e) The first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each
year.
  SEC. 2.  This act is an urgency statute necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, health, or safety within the
meaning of Article IV of the Constitution and shall go into immediate
effect.  The facts constituting the necessity are:
   In order that local elections scheduled for June of 1999 may take
place, it is necessary for this act to take effect immediately.
