LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 1559, Kelley. County sanitation: sanitary districts. Existing law limits the compensation received by a county sanitation district or sanitary district board member. A board member's compensation is limited to $100 per day for attending a district board meeting or for rendering services. This bill would authorize the board to increase the compensation board members receive to above the $100 per day limit pursuant to specified procedures. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 4733 of the Health and Safety Code is amended to read: 4733. (a) The district board may fix the amount of compensation per meeting to be paid each member of the board for services for each meeting attended by the member. Subject to subdivision (b), the compensation shall not exceed one hundred dollars ($100) for each meeting of the district board attended by the member or for each day' s service rendered as a member by request of the board, not exceeding a total of six days in any calendar month, together with any expenses incident thereto. (b) The district board, by ordinance adopted pursuant to Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 20200) of Division 10 of the Water Code, may increase the compensation received by the district board members above the amount of one hundred dollars ($100) per day. SEC. 2. Section 6489 of the Health and Safety Code is amended to read: 6489. (a) Subject to subdivision (b), each of the members of the board shall receive compensation in an amount not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100) per day for each day's attendance at meetings of the board or for each day's service rendered as a director by request of the board, not exceeding a total of six days in any calendar month, together with any expenses incident thereto. (b) The district board, by ordinance adopted pursuant to Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 20200) of Division 10 of the Water Code, may increase the compensation received by board members above the amount of one hundred dollars ($100) per day. (c) The secretary of the sanitary board shall receive compensation to be set by the sanitary district board, which compensation shall be in lieu of any other compensation to which he or she may be entitled by reason of attendance at the meeting or meetings of the sanitary board.
