LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 326, Lewis. Charter schools. Existing law provides that a charter granted by a school district governing board, a county board of education or the State Board of Education, may be granted one or more subsequent renewals by that entity. Existing law also provides that if the governing board of a school district denies a petition for the establishment of a charter school, the charter school may submit its petition to the county board of education or the State Board of Education for review, or if the petition was submitted to the county board of education and that board denies the petition, the charter school may submit its application to the State Board of Education.
