BILL NUMBER: SB 383
  VETOED	DATE: 10/12/2001

10/12/01

To Members of the California State Senate:

I am returning Senate Bill 383 without my signature.

This bill would provide binding arbitration for physicians and
dentists employed by the county of Los Angeles and include safety
officers in the County of Los Angeles in the categories of law
enforcement officers covered by binding arbitration.

I oppose binding interest arbitration as a replacement for good faith
collective bargaining. The only exception I have made is for law
enforcement and firefighters on economic issues only, due to the
direct impact of their jobs on public safety.

Sincerely,

GRAY DAVIS
