          SUBJECT  :   Child Abuse Prevention Month

           SUMMARY  :   Acknowledges the month of April 2005, as Child Abuse  
          Prevention Month. Specifically,  this resolution  makes the  
          following legislative findings:  

          1)Child abuse is an unacceptable social problem that results in  
            human and economic costs with approximately 3 million reports  
            of suspected or known child abuse and neglect made each year.   


          2)The rate of infant homicide has doubled during a period when  
            overall infant mortality decreased from all other sources; and  
            it is estimated that 1,200 children, 85% under 6 years of age  
            and 44% under 1 year of age, lose their lives each year as a  
            result of abuse and neglect.
