   An act relating to inmates.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   AB 862, as introduced, Bass.   Inmates: parental rights and
responsibilities.
   Under existing law, the Department of Corrections has
responsibility for the care and custody of inmates under its
jurisdiction.
   This bill would express the intent of the Legislature that every
inmate who is remanded to the Department of Corrections who is a
parent of a minor child shall receive, upon reception to the
department, a notice of parental rights and responsibilities,
including information about how to modify child support orders.
   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:


  SECTION 1.  It is the intent of the Legislature that every inmate
who is remanded to the Department of Corrections who is a parent of a
minor child shall receive, upon reception to the department, a
notice of parental rights and responsibilities, including information
about how to modify child support orders.
