An act relating to family law.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
AB 2288, as introduced, Dymally Family law court.
Existing law establishes procedures related to the custody,
visitation, and support of a minor child.
This bill would enact the Family Law Conflict Reduction Act of
2006, which would declare the Legislature's intent to enact
legislation to reduce conflict among parties in family law court.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the Family
Law Conflict Reduction Act of 2006.
SEC. 2. (a) The Legislature finds and declares the following:
(1) Family law court continues to be a significant source of
frustration, conflict, and protracted litigation for the parties as
well as a heavy burden on the resources and personnel of the courts.
(2) It is in the best interest of the child and there is a
compelling state interest to:
(A) Encourage mutually agreeable coparenting plans.
(B) Provide early conflict reduction methods for custody and
visitation disputes.
(C) Ensure actual enforcement of court orders.
(D) Develop cost effective approaches for families with middle or
low incomes, especially for litigants that cannot afford counsel.
(b) It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to
reduce conflict among parties in family law court.
