SCR 13 (Battin) - As Amended: March 14, 2005
SUBJECT : Child Abuse Prevention Month.
SUMMARY : Acknowledges the month of April 2005 as Child Abuse
Prevention Month and encourages Californians to support child
abuse prevention activities in their communities and schools.
Specifically, this resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1)In 1996, more than 3 million children reported having suffered
abuse and neglect.
2)For approximately every three dollars spent on the prevention
of child abuse and neglect, at least six dollars are saved
that might otherwise be spent on child welfare services,
special education services, medical care, foster care,
counseling, and the housing of juvenile offenders.
3)This year's campaign is entitled "Safe Children and Healthy
Families are a Shared Responsibility".
4)The National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, which has
organized Blue Ribbon campaigns to increase public awareness
of child abuse, has proclaimed April as National Child Abuse
Prevention Month.
