ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES
Cindy Montanez, Chair
SCR 97 (Battin) - As Amended: March 6, 2006
SENATE VOTE : 33-0
SUBJECT : Child Abuse Prevention Month
SUMMARY : Acknowledges the month of April 2006 as Child Abuse
Prevention Month and encourages Californians to support
youth-serving child abuse prevention activities in their
communities and schools. Specifically, this resolution makes
the following legislative findings:
1)In 1996, more than three million children reported having
suffered abuse and neglect.
2)For approximately every three dollars spent on the prevention
of child abuse and neglect, at least six dollars are saved
that might otherwise be spent on child welfare services,
special education services, medical care, foster care,
counseling, and the housing of juvenile offenders.
3)This year's campaign is entitled "Safe Children and Healthy
Families are a Shared Responsibility".
4)The National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, which has
organized Blue Ribbon campaigns to increase public awareness
of child abuse, has proclaimed April as National Child Abuse
Prevention Month.
