SUBJECT : Pupils of public high schools: community
          college enrollment

           SOURCE : Author

DIGEST : This bill provides a five year sunset extension
to a statute that allows high school students to attend
specified community college courses during summer session
in exemption to a five percent limit on such attendance.

Senate Floor Amendments of 8/12/08 delete the prior version
which extended limited state oversight of private
postsecondary schools from February 1, 2008 to July 1,
          2008.

ANALYSIS : Current law allows a high school principal to
recommend that up to five percent of the pupils at a grade
level attend summer school classes at a community college.
Current law exempts pupils who are taking courses that meet
California State University breadth requirements, are in a
career technical education sequence, or assist the pupil to
meet high school graduation requirements, from being
counted under the five percent limit.

The portion of the law that allows exemptions to the five
percent cap is scheduled to become inoperative on January

This bill extends the law until January 1, 2014.
