ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES
Ted W. Lieu, Chair
ACR 41 (Miller) - As Introduced: February 27, 2009
SUBJECT : Native Americans: California Indian Heritage Month.
SUMMARY : Proclaims November 2009 as California Indian Heritage
Month, encourages its observance with activities that celebrate
our uniqueness as Americans, and commends California Indian
nations for their outstanding contributions to this state.
Specifically, this resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1)California Indians have made vital contributions to the
strength and diversity of our society through their rich,
cultural traditions and proud ancestry.
2)In 2007, President Bush proclaimed November as National
American Indian Heritage Month in recognition of American
Indians and Alaskan Natives.
3)Californians are working to protect and enhance tribal
resources in recognition of the sovereignty of the California
Indian nations to be self-governing, self-supporting, and
self-reliant.
4)As of the last census, over 423,000 American Indians were
living in California in 2007; and it is fitting to recognize
Native American Indians for their rich history and commitment
