                             ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES
                                 Ted W. Lieu, Chair
                 ACR 95 (Torrico) - As Introduced: September 8, 2009

SUBJECT : California Native American Day.

SUMMARY : Recognizes the importance of California Native
American Day, celebrated this year on September 25, 2009, and
the concurrent California Indian Cultural Awareness Conference
to the enhancement of awareness of California Indian culture.
Specifically, this resolution makes the following legislative
          findings:

1)California is home to more federally recognized Indian tribes
than any other state in the United States; and the cultural
and governmental contributions of the native peoples of
California have shaped the course for the state throughout
            history.

2)California Native American Day is celebrated in this state by
tribes and communities across the state, and is a day for
educators of California to teach factual California Indian
            history in schools.

3)The California Indian Cultural Awareness Conference,
co-sponsored by the San Manuel Tribal Unity and Cultural
Awareness Program and the Santos Manuel Student Union at the
California State University at San Bernardino, will be held
concurrently with California Native American Day; and the
conference will assist educators by providing new educational
resources regarding the rich and varied lives of the
            California Indian Nations.
