SUBJECT : County Government Month 2010

SOURCE : California State Association of Counties

DIGEST : This resolution recognizes April 2010 as County
Government Month and encourages all Californians to
actively participate in their county government.

ANALYSIS : This resolution makes the following
          legislative findings:

1.National County Government Month is celebrated each April
by the nation's counties to raise public awareness and
understanding about the roles and responsibilities of
            county government in our communities.

2.California's 58 counties are committed to protecting and
enhancing the health, welfare, and safety of their
residents in an effective and efficient manner. As
partners with the state, counties deliver many health and
human services to vulnerable children, families, and
            seniors.

3.Counties own and operate more than one-third of the
state's maintained road miles. Counties are responsible
for ensuring the safety and mobility of the traveling
public, farm-to-market and multimodal needs, and the
movement of people and goods necessary for a strong
            economy.

4.California counties administer the local justice system,
from prosecution and defense to detention and probation.

This resolution declares April 2010 as County Government
Month in the state and encourages all Californians to
actively participate in their county government.
