   Relative to the El Salvador Community Corridor.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   ACR 126, Davis. El Salvador Community Corridor.
   This measure would recognize the area between Adams Boulevard and
11th Street on Vermont Avenue in the City of Los Angeles as the El
Salvador Community Corridor. The measure would also request the
Department of Transportation to determine the cost for appropriate
signs showing this special designation and, upon (1) receiving
donations from nonstate sources covering that cost and (2) the
department's determination that specified conditions have been
satisfied, to erect those signs at the Vermont Avenue exits on State
Highway Route 10.



   WHEREAS, The City of Los Angeles, which represents over three
million residents and prides itself in cultural diversity, aims to
include all of its citizens in community affairs; and
   WHEREAS, Located in southern California, Los Angeles is one of the
world's major global cities, and is a hub of shipping,
manufacturing, and financial industries. Los Angeles is also
world-renowned in the entertainment and communications fields; and
   WHEREAS, Los Angeles is one of only two United States cities
without a majority population. People from 140 countries, who speak
approximately 86 languages, currently call Los Angeles home; and
   WHEREAS, Los Angeles is home to over 500,000 El Salvadorans, who
have contributed to improving the quality of life in the great City
of Los Angeles. A large majority of the city's El Salvadoran
population resides in the Pico Union area of Los Angeles; now,
therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
thereof concurring, That the Legislature recognizes the area between
Adams Boulevard and 11th Street on Vermont Avenue in the City of Los
Angeles as the El Salvador Community Corridor; and be it further
   Resolved, That the Department of Transportation is requested to
determine the cost of appropriate signs, consistent with the signing
requirements for the state highway system, showing this special
designation and, upon (1) receiving donations from nonstate sources
sufficient to cover that cost and (2) the determination by the
department that all of the conditions set forth in Section 101.12 of
the Streets and Highways Code have been satisfied, to erect those
signs at the eastbound and westbound exits to Vermont Avenue on State
Highway Route 10; and be it further
   Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of
this resolution to the author and the Department of Transportation
for appropriate distribution.
