SUMMARY : Acknowledges the month of April 2010 as Child Abuse
Prevention Month, and encourages California citizens to work
together to support youth-serving child abuse prevention
activities in their communities and schools during the month of
April and throughout the year. Specifically, this resolution
makes the following legislative findings:
1)Child abuse and neglect is a community problem; and, finding
solutions depends on the involvement of people throughout the
community.
2)In 2007, approximately 5.8 million children were reported to
child protective agencies in the United States as having
suffered abuse and neglect; and, child abuse and neglect
continue to pose a serious threat to our Nation's children.
3)The National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse, in all its
forms, has proclaimed April as National Child Abuse Prevention
Month; and, blue ribbons are displayed to increase awareness
of child abuse and as a strategy for Child Abuse Prevention
Month.
