Relative to the Armenian Martyrs Memorial.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
ACR 148, Charles Calderon. Armenian Genocide Martyrs Memorial.
This measure would request that the Department of Transportation
erect informational signs on State Highway Route 60 in the County of
Los Angeles directing motorists to the Armenian Genocide Martyrs
Monument, consistent with the signing requirements for the state
highway system and upon receiving donations from nonstate sources
sufficient to cover the cost to erect those signs.
WHEREAS, The Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument was erected in
1965 in Bicknell Park in the City of Montebello; and
WHEREAS, The Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument is the site of
religious and cultural commemorations by the Armenian community in
southern California; and
WHEREAS, The Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument serves as a beacon
of awareness of all crimes against humanity; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate
thereof concurring, That the Legislature recognizes the importance of
the Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument to the people of California
and requests that the Department of Transportation erect
informational signs on the westbound portion of State Highway Route
60 leading to the Garfield Avenue exit and the eastbound portion of
State Highway Route 60 leading to the Garfield Avenue exit, in the
County of Los Angeles, directing motorists to the Armenian Genocide
Martyrs Monument, consistent with the signing requirements for the
state highway system and upon receiving donations from nonstate
sources sufficient to cover the cost to erect those signs; and be it
further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of
this resolution to the Department of Transportation and to the author
for appropriate distribution.
