SUMMARY : Commends Asian and Pacific Islander Americans for
their notable accomplishments and outstanding service to the
state, and recognizes the month of May 2010 as Asian and Pacific
Islander American Heritage Month. Specifically, this resolution
makes the following legislative findings:
1)Asian and Pacific Islander Americans have played a critical
role in the social, economic and political development of
California through their entrepreneurial skills, business
leadership and economic success.
2)Asian and Pacific Islander Americans from various ancestral
backgrounds represent over 14 percent of California's
population; and, many overcame tremendous odds and cultural
barriers to establish a better life for themselves and their
families.
3)California's Asian and Pacific Islander American communities
actively promote their cultural heritage and cross-cultural
understandings and continue to be an important part of
California's diverse tapestry of ideas and cultures.
4)Asian and Pacific Islander Americans have a proud legacy of
service and dedication to the State of California and the
United States of America.
