Original Committee Reference: TRANS.
SUMMARY : Designates a segment of State Route (SR) 55 as the
Paul Johnson Highway.
The Senate amendments make a minor editorial change and add
coauthors.
EXISTING LAW : Assigns the California Department of
Transportation (Caltrans) the responsibility to operate and
maintain state highways. This includes the installation and
maintenance of highway signs.
AS PASSED BY THE ASSEMBLY , this bill was substantially similar
to the version passed by the Senate.
FISCAL EFFECT : According to the Assembly Appropriations
Committee, minor costs to Caltrans to make and erect appropriate
signs; these costs are covered by donations.
COMMENTS : Paul Johnson began his broadcasting career in the
1950s at a rock and roll station in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
After serving in the Army, he relocated to Los Angeles where he
appeared in movies, several opera productions, and numerous
television commercials.
Mr. Johnson began traffic reporting in 1982 on the radio at
several Los Angeles stations, including KNX, KZLA, KACE, KXEZ,
and KSRF. Since 1988, had he been a part of KNBC's on-air team.
During his tenure with KNBC, he served as a weather and traffic
report anchor and contributor and delivered traffic information
daily to millions of southern Californians for 28 years.
