           SUMMARY

This bill requires the Department of Water Resources (DWR) to
complete a study of the economic impacts of water supply
reduction in the San Joaquin Valley, including Fresno, Kern,
Kings, Madera, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tulare
counties and report to the Legislature by January 1, 2011.

           FISCAL EFFECT

Minor one-time costs, less than $50,000 primarily in 2009-010,
to the DWR to study the economic impacts of reducing water
supplies to the San Joaquin Valley.

           COMMENTS

1)Rationale . The author is concerned about the potential
economic impacts resulting from water supply reductions to the
            San Joaquin Valley.

2)Related legislation. This bill, aside from the report's due
date, is nearly identical to AB 877 (Parra, 2008), a bill that
            failed to pass the Senate.
