   An act to add Section 5007.6 to the Public Resources Code,
relating to the state park system.

   AB 1345, as introduced, Swanson. State park system: beaches.
   Under existing law, the Department of Parks and Recreation
administers and manages the state park system. The state park system
consists of specified units, including state beaches.
   This bill would require the Department of Parks and Recreation to
erect on a state beach, or any other unit of the state park system
that encompasses a beach, signs that warn the public of dangerous,
unsafe, or contaminated waters or waters that are closed to public
access due to safety concerns. The signs would be written in English
and other languages that meet certain criteria.
   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes.
State-mandated local program: no.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  SECTION 1.  Section 5007.6 is added to the Public Resources Code,
to read:
   5007.6.  (a) The department shall erect on a state beach, or any
other unit of the state park system that encompasses a beach, signs
that warn the public of dangerous, unsafe, or contaminated waters or
waters that are closed to public access due to safety concerns.
   (b) The signs shall be written in English and any language that is
predominantly spoken, or languages that the department determines
that a significant or substantial number of residents speak, in the
geographical area where the beach is located.
   (c) The signs shall conform with department rules and regulations
regarding signs in the state park system.
