SUMMARY
This bill extends from January 1, 2010 until January 1, 2012,
the authorization for a nonprofit charitable organization to
acquire electric commodity service through a direct transaction
with an electric service provider if electric commodity service
is donated free of charge without compensation, and makes
several technical changes provisions government public
utilities.
FISCAL EFFECT
Minor absorbable costs for the Public Utilities Commission to
continue tracking the donation of any electricity generation
costs and to monitor the assessment of other service-related
charges.
COMMENTS
Purpose . SB 423 (Simitian)/Chapter 749 of 2006 authorized
501(c)(3) charitable organizations to receive donated electric
commodity service through a direct transaction, but required
those organizations to pay all other components of the
electricity service, such as those related to transmission and
distribution. This committee bill extends the authorization for
this activity for an additional two years and makes other,
technical code changes.
