An act to add Section 217 to the Military and Veterans Code,
relating to mental health.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
AB 2661, as introduced, Salas. California National Guard: mental
health assessments: combat troops.
Existing law establishes the California National Guard. Under
existing law, various services are available for veterans, both
through state and federal programs.
This bill would require the California National Guard to develop a
comprehensive and ongoing mental health assessment program for every
California National Guard soldier who has been deployed to a combat
zone.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 217 is added to the Military and Veterans Code,
to read:
217. The National Guard shall develop a comprehensive and ongoing
mental health assessment program for every California National Guard
soldier who has been deployed to a combat zone.
