SCR 46, as introduced, Harman. Aquatics Safety Month.
This measure would declare May as Aquatics Safety Month.
Fiscal committee: no.
WHEREAS, Self-directed and organized forms of recreation and the
creative uses of free time are vital to ensure productive and happy
lives of all our citizens; and
WHEREAS, Athletic and recreational programs throughout the State
of California encompass a multitude of activities that can result in
personal accomplishment, self-satisfaction, and family unity for all
citizens, regardless of their background, ability level, or age; and
WHEREAS, The most popular sports and recreational activities
identified by American Sports Data, Inc.'s "2008 Superstudy of Sports
Participation" are swimming, walking, jogging, bicycling, and weight
training; and
WHEREAS, The State of California is blessed with miles of beach
front, lakes, rivers, and swimming pools, both public and private;
and
WHEREAS, The State of California should recognize that swimming
and aquatic-related activities provide an affordable avenue for
exercise and physical activity necessary for good physical and mental
health, and that participation in swimming and aquatic activities
enhances the quality of life for all people; and
WHEREAS, The State of California is extremely proud of the
swimming facilities, aquatic programs, trained aquatic professionals
who are responsible for the safety and well-being of swimmers and
aquatic participants, and for the contributions of aquatics in
providing to all ages healthy places to recreate, learn, maintain,
achieve fitness objectives, and to build confidence and a sense of
self-worth, all of which ultimately contribute to the quality of life
in our communities and throughout the state; now therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly
thereof concurring, That the State of California declares May as
Aquatics Safety Month in the State of California; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this
resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
