           SENATE VOTE  :   35-0
           
          SUBJECT  :   Kidney Cancer Awareness Month

           SUMMARY  :   Proclaims March 2009 as Kidney Cancer Awareness Month  
          in California.   Specifically,  this resolution  makes the  
          following legislative findings:   

          1)The American Cancer Society estimates that, each year, more  
            than 54,390 people in the United States are diagnosed with  
            kidney cancer; and more than 100,000 survivors of kidney  
            cancer now live in the United States.

          2)Kidney cancer is among the 10 most common cancers in both men  
            and women and is usually undiagnosed or misdiagnosed until  
            later stages or until it has spread to other areas of the  
            body.

          3)Breakthroughs in research over the last year have given  
            renewed hope to patients who previously had few treatment  
            options.
