SUMMARY : Declares the week of June 14 to 20, 2010, as the week
of celebrating golf and the golf industry in California.
Specifically, this resolution makes the following legislative
findings:
1)With three million golfers, 926 courses, and a large number of
annual golf events, golf in California is a key industry that
generated a total economic impact of $15.1 billion in 2006.
2)Annually, California's golf courses help raise over $300
million for numerous worthy charities and causes; and, The
First Tee, which teaches life skills to young people through
the game of golf and offers core programs that are estimated
to reach at least 25,000 youth annually, has 17 chapters in
California.
3)The continued health and growth of the golf industry has a
direct bearing on future jobs, commerce, economic development,
and tax revenues for a large number of California's
communities and industries.
4)The United States Open Championships will be hosted by Pebble
Beach Golf Links from June 14 to 20, 2010; and, Pebble Beach
Golf Links has hosted four previous U.S. Open Championships.
