           SUBJECT  :    Douglas B. Dunaway Memorial Bridge

           DIGEST  :    This resolution designates a bridge on the State  
          Highway Route 78 Bypass in Imperial County as the "Douglas  
          B. Dunaway Memorial Bridge."

           ANALYSIS  :    Born to a United States military family on an  
          airbase in England in 1959, Douglas B. Dunaway enlisted in  
          the United States Army in 1977.  Following four years of  
          military service, Mr. Dunaway enrolled at Oregon State  
          University earning a bachelor's degree in Civil  
          Engineering.  In 1991, he began work at the Department of  
          Transportation (Caltrans), where he worked for 19 years  
          until his death.  Mr. Dunaway worked in the Office of  
          Structures Construction at Caltrans and on structures in  
          Caltrans' District 11, which encompasses Imperial and San  
          Diego counties.  In 2008, Caltrans named him the Structure

          Representative of the Year.  He served Caltrans and  
          California well, gaining the respect of supervisors and  
          mentoring other Caltrans' employees.  He had a passion for  
          bridge building and volunteered for bridge assignments in  
          Imperial County, where he enjoyed both working and living.
           
           This resolution designates the New River Bridge on the  
          State Highway Route 78 Bypass in Imperial County as the  
          "Douglas B. Dunaway Memorial Bridge."  This resolution  
          further requests that Caltrans erect appropriate signs upon  
          receiving donations from non-state sources to cover the  
          costs.
