SENATE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE : Senate Rule 28.8

SUBJECT : Veterans homes: yearly fiscal estimate package

           SOURCE : Author

DIGEST : This bill requires the Department of Veterans
Affairs to provide the fiscal estimate packages and updated
fiscal estimate packages each year to the legislative
representatives whose districts include the state veterans'
          homes.

ANALYSIS : Existing law requires the Department of
Veterans Affairs to provide a fiscal estimate package to
the fiscal committees of the Legislature, by January 10 of
each year, that contains specified information regarding
the costs of administering state veterans' homes. Existing
law also requires the department to provide an updated
fiscal estimate package on or before May 15 of each year.

This bill makes sure that legislators with a veterans' home
                                                           CONTINUED

in their districts will get the same reports as the Budget
Committee. This is not a new report; so, the cost of
making and delivering extra copies of this report should be
          minimal.
The author's office notes that, while current law already
requires that the report go to the fiscal committees in
both houses, also requiring that the report go specifically
to legislators that have a veterans home in their district
          seems a reasonable addition
