STAFF COMMENTS: SUSPENSE FILE.
This bill defines juvenile recidivism, as it relates to tracking
the recidivism rates of former DJJ wards, as: 1) The number of
individuals who are subsequently arrested during the follow up
period; 2) The number of individuals who are subsequently
adjudicated or convicted during the follow up period; 3) The
number of individuals who are subsequently returned to the
Division during the follow up period; 4) The number of
individuals who are subsequently returned or committed to the
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation,
Division of Adult Institutions, during the follow up period. DJJ
is already beginning to track this information, and will
continue to expand recidivism tracking.
This bill requires DJJ to post the recidivism information
that it is required to track on its website, annually. DJJ
already posts limited recidivism information on its
website, and there will not be significant additional costs
to post the new information.
