ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES
Nancy Skinner, Chair
ACR 29 (Bonilla and Ma) - As Amended: March 15, 2011
SUBJECT : Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.
SUMMARY : Recognizes the month of February 2011 as Teen Dating
Violence Awareness and Prevention Month, supports communities in
empowering teens to develop healthy and violence-free
relationships; and encourages Californians to observe the month
with appropriate programs and activities that prevent teen
dating violence and promote healthy teen relationships in their
communities. Specifically, this resolution makes the following
legislative findings:
1)In a study of California high school pupils, 7 percent of
pupils in grade 11 indicated that they were victims of teenage
dating violence in the past 12 months; and violent
relationships during adolescence can result in the victims
being at a higher risk for substance abuse, eating disorders,
risky sexual behavior, suicide, and adult victimization.
2)Teen dating violence is a serious and growing problem
throughout California; and skilled assessment and intervention
programs are necessary for youth who perpetrate teen dating
violence and youth who are victimized.
3)The establishment of a Teen Dating Violence Awareness and
Prevention Month will benefit schools, communities, families,
and all youth; and, public and private organizations as well
as families and youth must work together to raise awareness of
the high incidence of teen dating violence and to promote
prevention strategies.
