SUBJECT : Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month.
SUMMARY : Commends Asian and Pacific Islander Americans for
their notable accomplishments and outstanding service to the
state of California and recognizes the month of May 2011as Asian
and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month. Specifically,
this resolution
makes the following legislative findings:
1)Asian and Pacific Islander Americans have played a critical
role in the social, economic and political development of
California through their entrepreneurial skills, business
leadership and economic success.
2)Asian and Pacific Islander Americans from various ancestral
backgrounds represent over 14 percent of California's
population and have had to overcome tremendous odds and
cultural barriers to establish a better life for their
families.
3)Asian and Pacific Islander Americans continue to be an
important role in California's diverse tapestry of ideas and
continue to contribute to the urban and rural growth of the
state by revitalizing many of the communities with their new
ideas and economic opportunities.
4)Asian and Pacific Islander Americans have a proud legacy of
service and dedication to the state of California and to the
United States.
