5, 1967. On January 14, 1971, he was inaugurated Governor
of California for a second time.

leadership, whether you agreed with him or not, to bring
opposing ideologies to the table. Public opinion polls
show that President Reagan left office with one of the
highest approval ratings of any modern President.
Ronald Reagan enjoyed his retirement for many years, then
learned he had Alzheimer's disease. Nancy Reagan, his wife
of over 50 years, vigilantly and lovingly guarded his
privacy after he withdrew from public view on November 5,
1994, with a poignant letter about his Alzheimer's
diagnosis. "I only wish there was some way I could spare
Nancy from this painful experience," he wrote in his
letter.
Ronald Reagan greeted each birthday with a warm humor that
is well known by those who knew him. This year, his
greeting would have been, "Thank you for acknowledging the
61st anniversary of my 39th birthday."
This resolution resolves that Members take great pride in
honoring Ronald Reagan for his many contributions to our
country and in celebrating his life; and recognizes
February 6, 2011, as Ronald Reagan Day. Specifically, this
resolution makes the following legislative findings:
1. February 6, 2011, was the 100th anniversary of Ronald
Reagan's birth and the seventh since his passing.
2. Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction for two
terms as the 40th President of the United States of
America; and his commitment to our Armed Forces
contributed to the restoration of pride in America and
prepared America's Armed Forces to meet 21st century
challenges.
3. Mr. Reagan's commitment to the nation's children helped
lower crime and drug use in our neighborhoods; and his
vision of "peace through strength" led to the end of the
Cold War.

public good, having been employed as an entertainer,
