   AJR 37, as introduced, Knight. F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program.
   This measure would urge the Congress of the United States to
recognize the importance of the F-35 aircraft and to support the full
funding of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program.
   Fiscal committee: no.



   WHEREAS, There is currently discussion in Congress about
continuing full funding and production of the F-35 Joint Strike
Fighter Program; and
   WHEREAS, Threats to peace and our national interests are
continuing to emerge; and
   WHEREAS, The F-35 is the most advanced fighter aircraft ever built
and is needed to replace the aging fleet of military aircraft that
have been in use for 30 years; and
   WHEREAS, The F-35 will not only provide needed support for our
nation's military but will also strengthen our international
alliances and ensure the success of our peacekeeping missions; and
   WHEREAS, The United States has been investing in the production of
the F-35 for more than a decade and will lose the benefits of this
investment if full funding and planned production are not continued;
and
   WHEREAS, Our military personnel and their families deserve the
peace of mind that comes from knowing that they have an unparalleled
multi-role fighter to keep them safe, protect our nation, and secure
peace around the world; and
   WHEREAS, The F-35 is critical to the modernization of our military
because it will replace aging and obsolete aircraft and secure
United States air superiority for the next generation; and
   WHEREAS, Many Californians depend on the economic impact of our
military bases to support their jobs and thriving communities; and
   WHEREAS, The F-35 generates more than 27,000 direct and indirect
high technology, high paying jobs for California; and
   WHEREAS, The global F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program already
provides sustained economic impact to California and its citizens of
over six billion dollars annually; and
   WHEREAS, The United States Congress is currently reviewing its
commitment to the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program and its full
funding; and
   WHEREAS, Investing in the technological superiority of our
military is a fitting honor to the millions of citizens of California
and the United States who have served our nation by protecting our
freedom through military service; now, therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Assembly and the Senate of the State of
California, jointly, That the Legislature of California urges the
Congress of the United States to recognize the importance of the F-35
aircraft and to support the full funding of the F-35 Joint Strike
Fighter Program; and be it further
   Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of
this resolution to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to
the Majority Leader of the Senate, to each Representative from
California in the Congress of the United States, and to the author
for appropriate distribution.
