Original Committee Reference: W. P., & W.
SUMMARY : Recognizes that there is not a national seafood
marketing fund and encourages the federal government to use a
portion of the approximately $400,000 collected annually through
customs laws regulating the importation of seafood to provide
sustainable funds for the domestic marketing of American
seafood, specifically California seafood.
The Senate amendments change the reference from seafood to fish
and seafood.
AS PASSED BY THE ASSEMBLY , this resolution was identical except
that it did not reference fish from seafood, as fish is
generally considered a subset of seafood.
FISCAL EFFECT : Unknown. This resolution is keyed non-fiscal by
the Legislative Counsel.
COMMENTS : The author amended this bill at the urging of
aquaculture interests who were concerned, in an abundance of
caution, that if a federal seafood marketing program is
established the promotion of farm-raised fish, particularly fish
that are raised inland, should be eligible under the program.
