Awareness Month to educate the public about this common genetic
disorder.

AS PASSED BY THE ASSEMBLY , the resolution made the following
legislative findings:
1)Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a neurological disorder affecting
one in every 3,000 births; and, it affects people of all races
and ethnicities, and both sexes equally.
2)The Children's Tumor Foundation is the leader in research
aimed at finding effective treatments and the cure for NF;
and, the foundation is working to improve the quality of
patient care and family support.
3)Research has linked NF to cancer, brain tumors, memory loss,
learning disabilities, heart disease, blindness, deafness, and
orthopedic problems; and, since locating the genes that cause
NF in the 1990s, researchers have made progress in
understanding the disorder and creating drugs to combat it.
4)Increasing public awareness of NF may bring hope to families
and patients suffering from NF and provide additional support
of essential research.
