SUBJECT : California Senior Center Month

                      California Senior Legislature

DIGEST : This resolution declares the month of November
2011 as California Senior Center Month in recognition of
the importance of senior centers to California's older
          adult population.

ANALYSIS : This resolution makes the following
          legislative findings:

          1. California is home to more than 700 senior centers that
provide information, assistance, and support to the
             state's older adult population.

          2. Senior centers are a safe and welcoming place where
seniors can get nutritious meals, health care,
             educational opportunities, fitness and recreation
activities, legal assistance, social opportunities and
             community involvement.

          3. In 2009, the California Commission on Aging hosted the
first statewide Senior Center Stakeholder Forum, which
brought together many senior center leaders and staff
together to explore the future possibilities for senior
             centers.

          4. The California Commission on Aging hosts a second Senior
Center Forum in November 2011 with the hope of
continuing the ongoing interest in senior center
             innovations and program developments.
