ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES
Nancy Skinner, Chair
ACR 91 (Buchanan) - As Introduced: January 18, 2012
SUBJECT : American Heart Month and Wear Red Day.
SUMMARY : Recognizes February 2012 as American Heart Month and
February 3, 2012, as Wear Red Day in California in order to
raise awareness of the importance of the ongoing fight against
heart disease and stroke; and urges all Californians to show
support for women and the fight against heart disease by wearing
the color red. Specifically, this resolution makes the
following legislative findings:
1)February is designated as American Heart Month; and Go Red for
Women is the American Heart Association's national call to
increase awareness about heart disease and inspire women to
take charge of their heart health.
2)Nearly as many women die of heart disease, stroke, and all
other cardiovascular diseases than the next four leading
causes of death combined, including all cancers; and only 16
percent of women surveyed in 2009 identified cardiovascular
disease as the greatest health problem facing them.
3)Wear Red Day is recognized nationwide each year to highlight
the Go Red for Women campaign; and Californians should learn
the warning signs of heart disease and stroke.
