ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES
Nancy Skinner, Chair
ACR 130 (Torres) - As Introduced: March 15, 2012
SUBJECT : California Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
SUMMARY : Designates the second week in April as California
Public Safety Telecommunicators Week to heighten awareness of
the importance of 911 service and its role in keeping the public
safe; and encourages the private sector and state and local
agencies during that week to initiate activities recognizing
public safety telecommunicators. Specifically, this
resolution makes the following legislative findings:
1)Over one-half million dedicated men and women are engaged in
the operation of emergency response systems for federal,
state, and local governmental entities throughout the United
States; and, an estimated 55,000 individuals are engaged in
answering 911 calls and operating the emergency response
systems in California.
2)Public safety telecommunicators are the first point of contact
for most interactions between the public and police, fire, and
emergency medical assistance; and, the public expects and
receives extraordinarily dedicated service from these
individuals.
3)Congress has designated the second full week of April of each
year as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week; and, it
is appropriate for California to conform to this practice.
