           SUBJECT  :    Maternity services:  insurance coverage

           DIGEST  :    This bill requires, as of July 12, 2012, group 
          health insurance policies to provide maternity services for 
          all those insured.

           Senate Floor Amendments  of 9/1/11 delete the prior version 
          of the bill regarding emergency medical services.  This 
          bill now requires, as of July 12, 2012, group health 
          insurance policies to provide maternity services for all 
          those insured.

           ANALYSIS  :    

          This bill:

          1.Commencing no later than July 1, 2012, requires a group 
            health insurance policy to provide maternity services for 
            all insureds under the policy.

          2.Defines "maternity services" to include prenatal care,

            ambulatory care for maternity services, involuntary 
            complications of pregnancy, neonatal care, inpatient 
            hospital maternity care, including labor and delivery, 
            and postpartum care.

          3.Requires this definition to remain in effect until 
            federal regulations pursuant to the Patient Protection 
            and Affordable Care Act define the scope of benefits to 
            be provided under that act.

          4.Exempts specialized health, Medicare supplement and other 
            insurance, as specified.  Would become operable only if 
            SB 222 is also enacted and takes effect.
