An act to add Section 14104.1 to the Government Code, relating to
transportation.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
AB 735, as introduced, Mitchell. Department of Transportation:
internships and student assistants.
Existing law creates the Department of Transportation with various
powers and duties with respect to transportation programs and
projects. Existing law provides that the department may employ such
assistance as may be necessary for the proper discharge of its
duties.
This bill would require the department, when hiring for
internships and student assistant positions, to give preference to
persons who are, or have recently been, in the foster care system and
persons who have recently been incarcerated by, or otherwise in
contact with, the juvenile justice system and who remain at
substantial risk for recidivism.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes.
State-mandated local program: no.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 14104.1 is added to the Government Code, to
read:
14104.1. The department, when hiring for internships and student
assistant positions, shall give preference to persons who are, or
have recently been, in the foster care system and persons who have
recently been incarcerated by, or otherwise in contact with, the
juvenile justice system and who remain at substantial risk for
recidivism.
