In 2001, the State and Consumer Services Agency held the
Greening of the State Capitol Project. Groups consisting of
users, facility maintenance staff, and consultants generated
action items in six areas: (1) energy saving design and
engineering, (2) waste reduction, (3) water conservation, (4)
indoor air quality, (5) community interaction, and (6)
education.
Actual sustainability initiative costs will depend on the type
and scope of projects and would likely continue for many years.
This bill is similar to AB 2670 (J Perez) 2010 which was vetoed
by Governor Schwarzenegger.
Staff recommends this bill be amended to sunset the task force
on January 1, 2014 as two years should be sufficient to develop
the sustainability initiative.
