SUMMARY : Requires the Department of Industrial Relations and
the Department of Fair Employment and Housing to collect and
tabulate data for each major Asian group, as specified.
The Senate amendments :
1)Delete the State Department of Health Care Services and the
State Department of Public Health from the provisions of this
bill.
2)Clarify that the state agencies required to comply with this
bill shall update their data collection as specified within 18
months after the decennial United States Census for the year
2020.
3)Clarify legislative findings and declarations to reflect Asian
Americans and Native Hawaiians.
EXISTING LAW requires state agencies, boards, and commissions
which directly or by contract collect demographic data as to the
ancestry or ethnic origin of Californians to use separate
collection categories and tabulations for each major Asian and
Pacific Islander group, including, but not limited to, Chinese,
Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Vietnamese, Asian Indian, Hawaiian,
Guamanian, Samoan, Laotian, and Cambodian.
AS PASSED BY THE ASSEMBLY , this bill was substantially similar
to the version approved by the Senate.
