An act to add Chapter 3.5 (commencing with Section 120460) to Part
2 of Division 105 of the Health and Safety Code, relating to public
health.

AB 1192, as introduced, Garrick. Immunization information:
pertussis.
Existing law creates various programs relating to requiring and
distributing information relating to immunizations for various
communicable diseases.
This bill would require the department to create and distribute
information for use by hospitals that includes specified information
relating to pertussis. The bill would also require hospitals to
distribute that information to the parents of newborn children prior
to release from the hospital.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Chapter 3.5 (commencing with Section 120460) is added
to Part 2 of Division 105 of the Health and Safety Code, to read:
CHAPTER 3.5. IMMUNIZATION EDUCATION
120460. (a) The department shall create and distribute
information for use by hospitals that includes all of the following:
(1) Information on the signs of pertussis, otherwise known as
whooping cough.
(2) Information on the risks of pertussis.
(3) The availability of a vaccine for pertussis.
(b) Hospitals shall distribute the information provided by the
department to the parents of newborn children prior to release from
the hospital.
(c) Nothing in this section shall require a hospital to provide or
pay for vaccination against pertussis.
