SUBJECT : Budget Act of 2012: State Department of State
Hospitals

DIGEST : This bill makes changes related to the State
Hospitals part of the 2012-13 Budget primarily related to
the abolishment of the Department of Mental Health (DMH)
and the establishment of the State Department of State
Hospitals (DSH). The majority of changes delete statutory
references to DMH and insert DSH.
Senate Floor Amendments of 8/21/12 delete the contents of
the bill. The amendments now constitute the bill.
ANALYSIS : Existing law provides for state hospitals for
the care, treatment, and education of mentally disordered

persons, which are under the jurisdiction of the DSH.
This bill makes technical, nonsubstantive changes to
various provisions of law to, in part, delete obsolete
references to the DMH.
This bill appropriates the sum of $1,000 from the General
Fund to the DSH for administration.
This bill declares that it is to take effect immediately as
a bill providing for appropriations related to the Budget
Bill.
